Actually, we do know. Republicans had a fit because as Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton used a private e-mail server that could have had classified information pass through them. Can't allow that. So in 2015 and 2016 Republicans were already talking about impeaching her had she won the election. And then they investigated her use of the server after the election.

Guess it's OK for Republicans to use private email servers and to give very sensitive information about our allies to our adversaries. Perhaps if Hillary deliberately gave classified information to our adversaries - instead of having it just pass through her personal server - or used a private email account, Republicans wouldn't have bothered going after her (yea, right).

I'll tell you what would have happened. George Bush would have tried to get enough Gore Electoral College electors to switch their vote so he'd steal the election. The will of the people! (I know it was talked about inside the Bush campaign the weekend before the election but I can't find the link). If that didn't work, and Gore and/or Hillary Clinton became president while losing the popular vote, the GOP would have reminded him/her every single day that they "don't have a mandate" and used that to force them to move way right and compromise.

Did Gore try and swipe a few electors after the 2000 election? Did Democrats at least use the "no mandate" as a hammer on George Bush and Donald Trump - who lost the election by 2.9 million votes! - to force them to move left and compromise? Pfft...you kidding? They're Democrats.

(Republicans weren't outraged at President's Bush's horrible response to Hurricane Katrina in 2005 either. So it's OK when Republican presidents - pro-life Republican presidents - turn their backs on those who desperately need help after a disaster.)

I'll tell you what would have happened. George Bush would have tried to get enough Gore Electoral College electors to switch their vote so he'd steal the election. The will of the people! (I know it was talked about inside the Bush campaign the weekend before the 2000 election, but I can't find the link). If that didn't work, and Gore and/or Hillary Clinton became president while losing the popular vote, the GOP would have reminded him/her every single day that they "don't have a mandate" and used that to force them to move way right and compromise.

Did Gore try and swipe a few electors after the 2000 election? Did Democrats at least use the "no mandate" as a hammer on George Bush and Donald Trump - who lost the election by 2.9 million votes! - to force them to move left and compromise? Pfft...you kidding? They're Democrats.

And as these scandals piled up, Republicans would be talking about resignation and forcing cabinet members to invoke the 25th Amendment. But when Republicans do it?

This blog has tried to chronicle the exponential Republican hypocrisy over the years. I certainly haven't gotten it all. But each time, I said it's like Lucy and Ethel and the chocolate. It keeps coming and coming and coming and coming....And coming. I've also said if hypocrisy was dirt, the GOP would be the biggest mountain in the world. By far.

But those analogies don't do the amount of Republican/Fox "News"/right-wing hypocrisy justice anymore. And saying Lucy and Ethel are drowning in the chocolate and the top of the mountain has reached outer space doesn't do it justice either. There are no words. It's who they are. It's what they do. A $3 bill has more credibility. And yet, Republicans get away with every word of it because Democrats never call them on it.

* One of the more under-publicized hypocritical historical facts about Russia's "meddling" in our 2016 presidential elections, is that the United States has not only "meddled" in other countries' elections and "manipulated" their electorate, including Russia's, but overthrew governments and installed ruthless authoritarians to our own liking. That aside, it shouldn't take away from these entries because of off-the-charts GOP hypocrisy and bare-knuckles partisan politics.

But the key part of this scandal wasn't Russia's "meddling" in our elections. It's something neither the media or any politician will touch. It's that a large chunk of the American electorate is extremely cynical and paranoid, and they're just looking for another wild conspiracy theory and another reason to despise Democrats and/or Hillary Clinton (or Nancy Pelosi and/or whoever the next top Democrat is). So this chunk of the electorate - who come off as arrogant, self-righteous know-it-alls - can be easily manipulated. And Russia and Vladimir Putin capitalized on that.

So if you were mindless enough, gullible enough, paranoid enough and stupid enough to believe that Hillary Clinton was running a pedophile ring in the basement of a Washington, DC, pizza restaurant, that the Pope endorsed Donald Trump, or a host of other obvious lies that only a moron would believe, congratulations. You got the government you deserve.

Bill Maher had Matt Schlapp, Chairman of the American Conservative Union, on his HBO show, Real Time. And Maher did a decent job whenever Schlapp defended "President" Trump. But at the end of the interview, Maher let him off easy.

Maher finished by reciting a list, a partial list, of Trump's scandals and corruption. And he asked Schlapp how he and the right would be reacting if Obama was doing all this. Schlapp responded by listing all the things Trump said he'd do during the campaign and then accomplished, as if that had anything to do with the point Maher was making. And that was it. Maher let him get away with it. Here's how I would have reacted if I was sitting in Maher's chair:

Yeah, and Mussolini made the trains run on time. But Trump also said he had a health care plan. So where is it? He also said he had an infrastructure plan. Every other week is "infrastructure week." So where's that?

He also said that Mexico would pay for the wall. So why is he asking American tax payers to pay for it?

And you guys crack me up. For the eight years when Obama was president, all we heard from Republicans was "the deficit, the deficit, the deficit..." We couldn't add a penny to the deficit while Obama was president. But now, thanks to the Trump/Republican Party tax cuts, the deficit is exploding. And not a peep out of you.

Also, if Obama fired the FBI director because he was conducting an investigation into an Obama campaign scandal, and Obama admitted that he fired the director to stop the investigation, Republicans would have impeached him within days. Obstruction of justice!.

So Obama wouldn't have been able to accomplish anything he campaigned on because Republicans would have turned it into such an issue, he would have had to resign. And that's not an exaggeration because in 2015 Republicans were already talking about impeaching Hillary, in January, 2017, had she won the election.

So you're a freaking hypocrite. You and all you right-wingers would be enraged if Obama did just one of the things that Trump has done. And if Obama got away with all of it, with a 40% approval number, just like Trump is getting away with it...? My God, there would be blood in the streets.

You know, one of these days there will be a Democratic president, hopefully in 2021. And he or she may have some kind of scandal in his or her administration, or a cabinet secretary may have to resign because of impropriety. And you, your supporters, Sean Hannity and Fox "News" will be foaming at the mouth with outrage. And that will show what hypocrites you all are all over again.

So even though you and the right-wing won't have the credibility to attack a Democratic president for corruption or scandal, it won't stop the right at all. You'll still go after a Democratic president for his or her scandals with all the incredulous, scorn and rage you have. And when you do, I'll say, "So what? He/she did what he/she campaigned on."

So for you to come on here and spin, deflect, defend and justify this corrupt mental case shows you're such a hypocrite that your face should melt away from the front of your head. And I'm not going to insult my own intelligence by shaking your hand. I'd sooner pick up a $3 bill because that has more credibility than you do.

Yes, this is how you have to deal with the leaders of this cult. And this is also the sort of tone and attitude Democrats should take against Trump/GOP voters. I'm serious. They have to call them out, Trump especially, and to his face, because it's the only way to crack the cult.

This is the slap upside the head Trump/GOP voters need. No, you won't convince that many of them that they're being conned; it is an incredibly strong cult after all (because Democrats allowed right-wing talking points and propaganda to resonate over the last 25+ years without countering it). But if they can just get five, maybe 10% of Trump/GOP voters to stop and think for a second, then it'll be worth it. They're not voting Democrat anyway. So they have nothing to lose.
